The Patriotic Tank Top, 1969
My favorite activity during the late 60's, when I was in high school, was to head over to the Boardwalk from San Jose. My high school friends and I loved to "cruise" the Boardwalk. For the 4th of July. I custom painted a "stars and stipes" design on a tank top with a felt pen. This was before tank tops had really caught on. I was excited to show off my muscles to all the girls in my new patriotic tank top on the 4th of July. We had a great time meeting girls and enjoying the wonderful old sights and sounds of the Boardwalk that day. And of course who could forget the fantastic fireworks display at the end of the day!

The Proposal, 1987
I have very fond memories of Santa Cruz. My parents owned a restaurant
in San Francisco and the Boardwalk was our family get-away. My husband
and I would later go to the Boardwalk almost every other weekend
as a way to get away from the fog in Daly CIty. One Sunday my husband
asked me to marry him while sitting and enjoying an ice cream. I
will always love the boardwalk. I have since moved up north and
it's hard to come down, but I really want to bring my children to
such a magical place.

Tunnel of Love,
1950s
In the fifties when we were dating we
used the cave train ride as our 'tunnel of love'. We had
4 minutes to make out like crazy!! And I don't think we were
the only ones. After all, in those days, you did not have
lots of choices!
I have lived near the boardwalk for over 55 years and it has remained a
fun spot to go to and now to take our grandchildren.

The Unforgettable Night, 2005
Growing up outside of the Bay Area as a child, I came yearly to
the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with my sisters, who now live at
separate ends of California. The Boardwalk has so much sentimental
value for me.
It was Valentines Day 2005 when my boyfriend took me to dinner.
He wanted to take me to Casa Blanca restaurant because he heard
that it was romantic with beautiful scenery. When we arrived we
had seen that the menu was a special "Valentines Day" menu
with only a few select items which were all Sea Food. My boyfriend
Brian hates seafood so we made the executive decision to walk along
the pier until we found something good. We ended up at this little
restaurant that served an awesome burger. (I'm a low maintenance
girl).
The scenery was beautiful and really romantic. It was already
the best Valentines Day I had ever had. After dinner I thought it
would be romantic to walk along the beach, until I realized I was
in stockings and high heels. Well that didn't stop Brian; he picked
me up and carried me down to the beach.
Then as I looked out onto the ocean, Brian got down on one knee
and asked me if I loved him. I said "Yes, of course." He
went on to ask, "Will you be my wife?" After a few moments
of incredible shock I said, "OF COURSE."
Brian had found out that my absolute ideal proposal spot was on
a beach and because the Beach Boardwalk holds so many great memories
for me, he decided to make it an even more memorable place.
We were married on January 14th, 2006 in San Jose.
