SANTA CRUZ, CA (October 13, 2009)–Marching bands from 55 Northern California junior high and high schools will hit the streets during the 39th annual Santa Cruz Band Review. The bands will march from Santa Cruz High School through downtown Santa Cruz and along Beach Street to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on Saturday, October 17.
The bands compete in such categories as music, showmanship, and marching. The judging area is near the Santa Cruz Police Department on Center Street. Beach Street is the “free play” area, where the young musicians let loose with their favorite music, outside of the judging area.
The Santa Cruz Band Review starts at 8:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz High School and moves through the downtown area finishing at the Boardwalk at approximately 2 p.m. An awards ceremony at 5 p.m. on the Boardwalk’s beach bandstand closes the event.
The Santa Cruz Band Review is a key fund-raising events for the Santa Cruz High School Band Boosters, and the proceeds are used to help pay for uniforms and trips to other band review competitions around Northern California. It is one of the most popular school Band Reviews in California.
A street closure map and event photographs are available.
